Real life & business minds is a book collectively written, compiled and co-authored by 32 South African professionals and entrepreneurs. What we share in common is our belief and respect in the merit of work & faith over time. Furthermore, our hope in the impact of contributing positively to life through our stories, experiences and knowledge.
The collective expertise includes medical doctors, engineers, lawyers, a psychologist, an occupational therapist, an economist, a dietitian, a marketing specialist, a dentist, a physiotherapist, an exercise specialist, educators, professional speakers, authors, public relations experts, accountants, a radio host, a computer scientist, relationship coaches, a professional nurse and entrepreneurs.
The old idiom of “It takes a village to raise a child” stands firm
on the principle of the benefits of collectivism. In the African context,
communities grew on these principles which led to the production of many
successful members of society even in the harshest of environments.
The book Real Life and Business Minds was based on such principles,
where various members within the academic, professional, and business
space contributed chapters on their topics of command to create a book.
It aims not only to ignite discourse on the various topics but remind us
once more of the power of collectivism. In this era of economic strife
and scarcity of jobs and basic resources…
The age-old proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” is founded on
the principle that one or two parents cannot be everywhere and do everything
needed to raise a child. It takes more resources, more time,
and more oversight to raise a child that is kind, respectful, and contributes
positively to society. Inherent to this concept is the idea of community,
the coming together, the pooling of resources, and the willingness to lend
a hand when needed. Just like that proverb, it also takes a village to build
a business. This powerful anthology, Real Life and Business Minds,
unifies 32 entrepreneurs from across South Africa who through work, faith,
and perseverance are not only building businesses, but are also building a
community…
…I believe our world was created with
the capacity for imperfections for a reason. God gave us the ability
to choose our fate so life would be exciting and He would know
who really loved Him. Since everyone has to choose, no one can fake it…
…Each of you is as valuable
and worthwhile as any other person (referring to the pool of
qualifications, backgrounds, experiences, backgrounds, age & gender
mix of all authors for the same book). You are a masterpiece of creation…
…As purpose-driven business owners, God wants you and me to experience what Jonathan and David had.
The underlying concept of harmonious effort is also what was on public display when we witnessed
sheer talent on American Idol two decades ago. It takes intentionality, but it brings personal satisfaction,
facilitates accountability for our ambitions, and creates a domino effect on our destinies.
Are harmony and purpose always easy? No.
Is it always worth it? Absolutely.
…The very essence of the book is a seed, a baobab tree seed inspired by
Dr B. Phetla with 32 co-authors. It is focused on a wide range of
societal issues, seeking to inspire, to educate, and to serve as a
lighthouse of our era. It engages the day-to-day challenges and solutions
for our generation. And just like the baobab seed, it has the potential
to widen and strengthen our vision…
…Help is available. Science and
technology have advanced significantly over the years and has made it possible for
couples who otherwise would not have been able to have children, to conceive through
assisted reproductive techniques.
Just as with the challenges around male infertility, we also face other real-life
challenges as individuals, families, societies and a country. May reading this book
bring light and hope to whatever situation that you might be going through.
